We are building a state-of-the-art Gigafactory that will be one of the largest cell production facilities in Europe. We are now looking for an experienced Process Engineering within Formation & Testing scope to join our Engineering team. Together, we have formed a joint venture, NOVO Energy, to power the next generation of pure electric Volvo cars. Our Formation & Testing Engineering team is coalition of specialists, engineers and technical project managers across. Together they work toward the shared goal of scaling and industrializing the production of our lithium-ion battery technology that will help Volvo transform into a pure electric car manufacturer. We are currently seeking skilled Process Engineers to play a pivotal role in the establishment and optimization of efficient and reliable battery cell formation and testing process equipment. This is the role for you who possess in-depth knowledge of battery technology, specifically the formation & testing equipment as well as recipe development. This position will directly impact the pursuit of making our manufacturing processes a competitive advantage. The team is currently focused on designing, planning, and equipping a world class Gigafactory in time for start of production in 2026. What you will do In this role you will be responsible for working with suppliers and a cross functional NOVO Engineering team for a specific area of formation & testing process equipment. You will work through adaptation of formation and testing process equipment design to NOVO requirements, acceptance testing at the supplier site all the way to commissioning and sign off in our NOVO site in Gothenburg before handover a functioning system to production. Key responsibilities will include: - Lead design reviews and FMEAs with formation & testing equipment suppliers and approve machine design concepts, technical drawings and documentation - Provide feedback and guidance to formation & ageing equipment suppliers to ensure equipment quality, technical specifications and CE safety standards are achieved. - Develop and issue DOEs and schedule process and equipment trials at supplier sites as well at NOVO site. - Lead the definition and release of standards for manufacturing formation & ageing process based on the trials and lessons learned performed on the way. - Provide start up assistance by utilizing cross functional experience to drive process quality improvement and process efficiency improvement. - Own and lead commissioning activities on site and support handover to production. - Actively participating and sharing all relevant information within a cross functional team on a regular basis. Your background We are looking for you who are a curious and persistent team player with a track record of leading process improvement projects in a production environment. You approach problem-solving with a “can-do” attitude, discipline and thrive in a fast-paced environment. - MSc. in Engineering or higher degree in mechanical, chemical, industrial, or electrical engineering or equivalent. - Previous experience in battery cell formation and testing processes or equivalent - Experience in design and procurement of formation & testing equipment would be an asset. - Industrial experience in demanding industrial environments. - Must have worked in multi-cultural environment. - Very good English, additional languages are a plus.
