Tasks The Department of Aquatic Resources is looking for a new employee who can manage and develop our databases. Within the department, extensive work is carried out for the collection of different types of data, especially regarding fish and from different types of fisheries. Data collection is done through our scientific surveys and test fisheries, but also from sampling of commercial fisheries. The databases' data models are intended to mirror the sampling design to ensure that the data can also be used correctly in the future. Data collection is constantly evolving, and new requirements for collection, storage, analysis and accessibility in turn place new demands on the development and management of our databases. We are looking for someone with a comprehensive view of database development. You have an understanding of how collection processes should be reflected in data models, you are used to structuring data and handling large amounts of data, and you can translate the requirements and needs of the business into functional specifications. The duties include the management of existing systems (e.g. Oracle database) in order to ensure functionality, structure, availability and security. You will be working with sensitive data and need to consider GDPR. You will work together with current system developers in all parts of the system development process, from requirements gathering to data modelling and development of the business's data storage. You will also interact with researchers and project managers who are responsible for various data collection projects. Another important part of the work is to participate in the development of reports and data queries from the database to support and integrate with a diversity of present and future analytical needs.   Qualifications Demand: • You have at least a university degree in systems science, or equivalent documented knowledge in the field • At least 4 years of experience in system development • Very good knowledge in database modelling, development, integration and management of relational databases • Broad knowledge of the database management process • Good knowledge of Oracle (SQL, PL/SQL) • You have good analytical skills, experience in structuring data and handling large amounts of data, and can translate the requirements and needs of the business into functional specifications. Meritorious are: • Knowledge and experience in Oracle APEX • Experience with different types of user interfaces e.g. web interface, API as Web Service and REST, Reports in various formats, .csv, Excel, .pdf and more • Experience with version control tools such as Git • Knowledge of messaging structures such as XML and JSON • Experience in development in C# (.NET), Python and R • Experience with agile development frameworks such as Scrum or similar. • Knowledge and knowledge of fisheries-related data • Experience of working with spatial databases • Knowledge of legal aspects of data management We work both nationally and internationally, which is why good ability to express oneself orally and in writing in both Swedish and English is important.  You need to be structured and driven. We will place great emphasis on personal suitability and previous work experience. Good collaboration skills are very important, but you also need to be able to work independently.   About us The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) has a key role in the development for sustainable life, based on science and education.
