Context As an experiment support and instrument technician, you will be responsible for the operation and development of experimental equipment and for providing support for experiments conducted at the ILL. You will act as technical contact for the instruments LADI / DALI within the Large Scale Structures group (LSS) and will work in collaboration with the other technicians in the group. You will work closely with the scientists in charge of the instruments (experimental stations) you are assigned to. Depending on the needs of the different instrument groups, you may be asked to work in parallel on other instruments of the LSS group. LADI / DALI are neutron diffractometers used for single-crystal studies of biological macromolecules, such as proteins, at high resolution. Your tasks Within the LSS group, working in close collaboration with the instrument team, you will have the following duties: . Carry out maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs on the instruments and ancillary equipment . Participate in technical projects on the instruments, for example involving the sample environment . Produce drawings (in SolidWorks), fine-tune equipment and maintain technical documentation . Assist in-house and visiting scientists with the preparation of their experiments and advise instrument users on technical matters concerning sample environment and instrumentation during experiments . Contribute to the design and development of equipment for LADI / DALI and other instruments of the LSS group in collaboration with other ILL services . Ensure compliance with instrument safety regulations, particularly those related to nuclear safety. Your profile . You have a Level 4/5 qualification (HNC/HND, foundation degree or equivalent) in physical measurements, instrumentation or a similar field, together with a few years of professional experience. . You are proficient in the use of conventional physical measurement techniques, such as optical, electrical or mechanical techniques, for measuring pressure, liquid and gas flow control, etc. . You can perform maintenance on conventional equipment, including laboratory apparatus. . You have a practical approach to your work and are keen to learn new skills. . You are capable of working independently on a wide variety of projects. . You possess the necessary interpersonal skills to work with in-house and visiting scientists. . Experience of using x-ray instruments would be an advantage.
