The Director of Quality Technology at Northvolt is responsible for driving technological excellence and ensuring quality assurance within cell manufacturing plants. This role includes exploring advanced inspection techniques, ensuring materials and components meet specifications, collaborating with manufacturing engineering teams, enhancing traceability systems, establishing a framework for quality tools and digital quality solutions, and implementing technical cleanliness standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Advanced Inspection Techniques:

  • Explore cutting-edge inspection technologies beyond the standard in-line, off-line, and at-line methods. Consider incorporating machine vision, automated optical inspection (AOI), and non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques.
  • Investigate how these technologies can enable or improve quality assurance processes for both in-line (during production) and incoming (raw materials and components) stages.

Materials and Components Quality Assurance:

  • Extend the focus beyond cell manufacturing to include quality assurance for raw materials, components, and sub-assemblies. Collaborate with the Supplier Quality (SQ) team to ensure alignment with specifications.
  • Implement rigorous material qualification processes and maintain a robust supplier approval system.

Manufacturing Engineering Collaboration:

  • Work closely with manufacturing engineering teams to optimize manufacturing processes. Standardize best practices across different plants.
  • Foster a culture of process excellence by promoting continuous improvement initiatives.

Traceability Systems Enhancement:

  • Enhance traceability beyond basic serial numbers. Explore technologies for end-to-end traceability of materials, components, and finished products.
  • Ensure seamless traceability throughout the product lifecycle.

Framework for Quality Tools:

  • Establish a comprehensive framework that includes processes, procedures, and structures for quality tools such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and control plans.
  • Use this framework as a lessons learned database to drive continuous improvement and enhance product quality.

Technical Cleanliness Implementation:

  • Develop and implement technical cleanliness standards across the company. Ensure adherence to cleanliness requirements in manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish guidelines for cleanliness in production areas.

Digital Quality Tools Interface:

  • Serve as the interface for digital quality tools, including laboratory systems and AI-driven solutions. Facilitate seamless integration of these tools into quality processes.
  • Explore how digital technologies can enhance data analytics, real-time monitoring, and predictive quality insights.

Requirements:

  • Degree in MSc/MEng in a relevant field
  • 10+ years of experience in reliability engineering, failure analysis, test, quality, or service engineering
  • Leadership and coordination skills in a highly flexible and frequently changing environment
  • Exceptionally good negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Experience supervising teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Project management skills and a successful track record
  • Excellent English written and oral skills
  • Ability to drive cross-functional action in response to product quality concerns
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, material, electrical, system, chemical, and process failure modes
  • Highly organized and results-driven
  • Ability to work under pressure and with tight deadlines; excellent time management
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment, as well as independently
  • Good experience with MS Office
  • Very good detail orientation
