About the role
The Futures and AI Lab (Futures Lab, Emerging Interfaces team and AI Enablement Program) have played an instrumental role in influencing and impacting Schibsted through the pivotal moment of emerging generative AI. We have impacted Schibsted at all levels, from Board of Directors, through leadership teams to individual employees.

  • The team have been influencing and informing leadership from the Board of Directors, Executive Management to leadership teams and strategy teams since the fall of 2022.
  • We are building early prototypes in experiments like ad creation and conversational interfaces and connecting teams with academic researchers.
  • We do deep research on AI problems, like fine tuning and training language models
  • We have engaged and trained employees on AI topics - more than 1000 employees have completed our training.

We are looking for an AI Lead to join our team. The AI Lead is responsible for the science and engineering leadership in AI and Machine Learning. The role requires a deep understanding of the possibilities and limitations of AI.
In addition, we are looking for someone that can act as a door-opener - an evangelist - communicating these ideas and concepts across the organisation, and inviting them to take action through piloting use cases. This will require creating a broad network across SMP of both technical and non-technical decision makers and stakeholders: product managers, engineering managers and business developers.
The AI Lead will also be a central participant in the arenas the program will establish, both internal ones for knowledge sharing and external ones making sure we are keeping up with development within the field.

The role will report to Andreas Bengtsson, Head of Futures and AI Lab.

Key responsibilities

  • Represent Schibsted Marketplaces as an AI thought leader in various settings and forums, internally and externally
  • Be an ambassador, making teams interested in engaging with the Lab and motivate for adoption of AI in their products and services
  • Be accountable for scoping of research questions and identifying lighthouse projects
  • Contribute to scope and curriculum development of AI training
  • Support the organisation in identifying possible use-cases and pilot these, including coordination with stakeholders
  • Contribute to strengthen the cooperation between Schibsted Marketplaces and academia to benefit from developments within the field
  • Work closely with the Technology Strategy team to initiate and drive revisions of the AI strategy.

The above outlines what is expected to be key responsibilities for the AI Lead. The candidate will be in a position to shape the role in collaboration with the Head of Futures and AI Lab, e.g. by assuming responsibility for cross-Lab responsibilities and outcomes.

Ideal candidate profile

  • You have at least a Master degree in a quantitative field (e.g. Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or Statistics) or equivalent experience
  • You have technical knowledge of AI/machine learning and the practical application of ML-methods. Experience in the development of data-driven products using AI/ML in large scale systems is a plus.
  • You have experience in an engineering-driven environment where business objectives form the basis of technical trade-offs and decision-making.
  • Even though you have a deep technical background, you are business-minded and understand how new technology can be used to develop new capabilities and capture new opportunities.
  • You have good verbal and written communication skills, and are able to explain complex concepts in a clear and understandable way
  • You are able to think strategically and act tactically
  • You have a positive mindset and it comes naturally to you to motivate others. Excellent networking abilities.
