We are currently looking for an experienced Data Processing Engineer, with space sector experience, to join our international team of young and inspiring engineers and industry professionals, tasked with driving innovation within the Space, Satellite and Earth Observation sector, specifically on the EU’s Earth observation ‘Copernicus programme’.

Within the Data Processing Systems and Applications Competence Area of the Satellite Systems Ground Segment (SGS) Division, the Copernicus Data Processing Engineer will provide engineering and technical support to the design, development, verification and validation of the Copernicus data processing systems used to provide near real time products to EUMETSAT user community.
The Copernicus Data Processing team is composed of very skilled and talented people that are dealing with the latest technologies (current and future state of the art) applicable for data processing systems. The team needs to face and resolve very challenging projects where thinking out of the box is essential and bringing innovative ideas is mandatory. Job description:
What you’ll be doing
* Coordinate system engineering activities for the maintenance and evolutions of the EUMETSAT’s Sentinel 3 (S-3) Marine Payload Data Processing system (PDP);
* Coordinate the integration of isolated software components into the data processing systems, covering all aspects of system integration and testing;
* Define and maintain requirements and specifications for existing upgrades or new Copernicus payload data processing systems, including support to the specification and development of dedicated monitoring tools; The engineering activities shall target the state of the art of the data processing systems, aiming to improve the efficiency and the effectiveness of EUMETSAT ground segments and processes;
* Contribute to procurements and follow up development of relevant Data Processing systems and evolution of existing applications software;
* Build and maintain relationships across the organization to maximize the results of the competence area;
* Set-up and implement adequate maintenance contracts, policies and procedures, as well as technical coordination with external maintenance service providers; in that respect the Copernicus data processing engineer will steer industrial contracts for the support for the maintenance of the S-3 data processing system, acting as technical officer and being the main focal point for all technical related activities;
* Pivot and adapt to changing business needs in a fast-paced, highly challenging environment;
* Support the Data Processing Systems and Applications Competence Area Manager in defining long term plans and roadmaps to harmonise Data Processing Systems engineering, maintenance and evolutions across all satellite systems exploited by EUMETSAT.

Qualifications
* A university degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Software or Systems Engineering or another relevant discipline.
Skills and Experience
* Proven experience in engineering and support to the operations of Data Processing Systems following well established processes, covering the full development lifecycle and using relevant technical standards (e.g. ECSS, CCSDS, OGC);
* Demonstrable knowledge of software development lifecycles and change control processes;
* Competence in the area of Data Processing Systems Verification &Validation (V&V) activities, including automated testing, software testing, unit test suite maintenance, software debugging and profiling;
* Ability to manage complex tasks with minimum supervision, including planning and prioritisation of activities, allocation and coordination of resources, monitoring and reporting;
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to apply these to a team environment while working within a matrix structure; a customer-centric approach, and a passion for driving continuous improvement;
* Be a strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills and a track- record of driving measurable outcomes;
* Experience steering/coordinating engineering teams and in the management of industrial contracts in relevant area will be considered an advantage.
