Senior Data Engineer

Are you interested in building data driven services that help decision makers build a sustainable society based on real-world data they can trust? Right now, we are looking for a Lead Data Engineer to strengthen our Data Insights team working on products that turn mobile network data into accurate, measurement-based data and meaningful, location-specific insights.

Your next challenge?

As a Lead Data Engineer, you will have a central role in driving the development of Division X data platforms. Your main responsibility is to ensure that our data platforms are modern, fit-for-purpose, robust and cost efficient.

You will work together with a team of data engineers, scientists and technical experts, business owners, partners and customers to take our data driven business to the next level.

In this role, you will:

  • Act as the technical lead for managing business and technical requirements, ensuring our solutions meet customer expectations.
  • Co-develop our data architecture and governance models together with our data scientists, architects and software developers.
  • Play a key role in raising the bar in how we ensure efficient testing of our pipelines via unit tests, integration tests, and data quality tests.
  • Participate in external meetings, providing your insights on finding best possible solutions for customer problems, and working efficiently with our partners.
  • Manage the cost efficiency of our data platforms.
  • Coach and mentor your colleagues to ensure Division X has a thriving data engineering culture.

In addition, you will be performing hands-on data engineering tasks, which include but are not limited to:

  • Writing and deploying SQL queries that supports our data products.
  • Setting up workflows and data pipelines for new data components, including advanced SQL joins.
  • Deploying infrastructure as code
  • Optimising data processing pipelines
  • Building and maintaining our API based product interfaces
  • Investigating bugs in aggregates and deploying fixes

Your experience:

  • You are a recognized expert as a data engineer, able to work on complex data sets, preferably using location and/or IoT sensor data.
  • You have a good understanding of big data concepts, cloud technologies, data modeling, data governance, and BI presentation.
  • You have experience in cloud technologies like Google Cloud Platform, Big Query, Airflow and terraform. Knowledgde of other cloud stacks, specifically Microsoft Azure, is a plus.
  • You have experience in operationalizing machine learning pipelines.
  • You have solid SQL and Python skills and can write clean, performance-optimized queries.
  • You have relevant experience developing and maintaining efficient ETL workflows, can navigate through complex scripts and workflows, and can make enhancements or code fixes, if needed
  • Full professional verbal and written proficiency in English is a requirement.
