Scania is now undergoing a transformation from being a supplier of trucks, buses and engines to a supplier of complete and sustainable transport solutions.
A thesis project at Scania is an excellent way of making contacts for your future working life with many of our current employees started their career with a thesis project. The engine control diagnostics group are responsible for requirements and development of diagnostics in the control system for the engine and engine aftertreatment systems (EATS). The responsibility consists of requirement setting and development of products, processes and methods within this area. The groups main assignment is to ensure that the systems diagnostic functionality fulfills the legal requirement for diagnostics and the safety and security standards that the system shall fulfill.
Service diagnostics is used in workshops to pin point the root cause of a malfunctioning engine and/or EATS. This is undertaken by running the engine & EATS in a pre-defined manner in one or more steps so that the malfunction can be better analyzed. The goal of the test is to point out a service measure, usually a replacement of a part. Key to service diagnostics is the accuracy of pin pointing the cause of the malfunction, in as little time as possible. This reduces the time required for the Scania product to be in the Service department instead of with the customer - uptime is key!
Increase Scanias customer uptime by providing the engine control diagnostic group data driven focus in the area of Service Diagnostics.
Set up a method to efficiently analyze the data from Scanias Service tool. Utilize this method to analyze the service diagnostics to find common failures, usage rates, robustness and effectiveness of the service diagnostics. Thereafter advise the engine control diagnostics group as to where the biggest improvements can be found and thus improve Scanias customers uptime!
