30 credits - Accurate Modelling of Fuel Injector Dynamics

Background:

Fuel system development and integration plays a vital role within the Engine development organisation at R&D. Deep technical knowledge of each individual component which combine to make the fuel system enables us to develop and optimise the fuel system used on Scania’s engines.

Fuel injector performance has a direct impact on engine efficiency and through validation, testing, simulation and hardware calibration we are able to continually develop our fuel injectors to make them the best available on the market today.

We utilise simulation tools as part of the development process to optimise testing resources, cut lead times and build knowledge. These tools also help us understand fundamental details of injector design and system performance. Injector simulation models developed using the GT-Suite software are frequently used and updated in order to more accurately describe injector functionality.

Target:

To improve the existing injector simulation model, in order to more accurately describe injector dynamics and performance. After validation, the model can be employed as a tool to assess different potential injector variants for future projects.

Assignment:
  • Understanding of the injector functionality, dictated by a combination of electronics, mechanics and hydraulics
  • Simulation in GT suite to update the latest injector model
  • Eventual communication with the supplier for required HW
  • Validate the accuracy of the model, through physical testing
Education:

MSc/Civilingenjör in: engineering mechanics, vehicle engineering, lightweight structures, welding mechanics, mechanical engineering, solid or fluid mechanics. Merit: experience from simulation software similar to GT-Suite
